He IS Here

Did you ever wonder what the church would look like if Jesus were to attend it?

This question has been driving my thought process for the last couple of weeks. Thus some of the messages and challenges that have surfaced. Why do we do what we do in church? Why do we sing what we sing? pray how we pray? say what we say? If Jesus were here now…Okay for all of you screaming at your screen that He is here with us right now, calm down. I know Holy Spirit is with us now, I know He lives in me and you. But I’m talking about in the flesh, sitting next to you while you pass notes in church. Sometimes I really wonder.

Sometimes we need to think that way. We need to try to imagine what we would do or say inside the church if He were right there where we could see Him. Not just where He is, in a place that , frankly, we can ignore Him. Would we worship differently? Would we actually bring our Bible to church? Would we take notes differently? Would we maybe actually pay attention to the message and not just try to be the first one to say, “Oh, that’s good Pastor.”

God has been dealing with me about living in church the same way I live out of church. I know that seems to be backward from most folks way of thinking, but why are we not as real IN church as we are AT work, or AT home? I want my worship to be a genuine, heartfelt experience. Not just something I do to be a part of the show. I want my praise to truly house the presence of God. Not just be the loudest and most active on the front two rows. When David danced before the Lord as the Ark was being returned to Jerusalem, he didn’t put on a show. He just worshipped his God. He just praised God as if he were alone.

Let’s go there. Let’s be a people set apart for the work of the Gospel by being a people set apart for the worship of God. See, we may pursue our desires, and may try to become something in life. But the truth of the matter is we were created to worship Him…like He were right there next to us.
